FAQ

How do I protect my workers from getting attacked by dogs?

It’s very important that you give them training that suits their working environment. Ensure the training you are giving them is from professionals with a proven track record of reducing incidents and who are qualified to educate your workers.

How do I know if my field workers need training on dog attacks?

Have a look at where they are going when they are at work. Are they entering properties, are there any instances of dog attacks on your workers previously. If the answer to this is yes, then they need training.

We have a policy in place that states all dogs must be tied up or put away before we go on site, why isn’t that enough?

Those policies are always a good idea to have in place, but they rely on customer compliance and ensuring that the dog can’t escape or be let out. We know from experience that this is not always the case.

How do we know what style of training to prevent dog attacks is right for us?

First look at your team, would it be easy to get them together to attend training? Are they easy to get to one location? Do you want to make this a team building exercise? If the answer is yes them Face-2-Face training could work for you. If you team is spread over a large area and the cost of getting them together would not be cost effective, then you may want to consider one of our online options such as Zoom or our customised online course.

Most of our staff love dogs so why would they need the training?

We get asked this a lot. Just because your field workers love dogs doesn’t mean that all dogs love people. Many owners don’t recognise when their dog is uncomfortable or stressed which can put your staff in danger.

Why should we train our staff to prevent dog attacks?

In 2023 NZ reported over 27,000 dog incidents, Australia reported over 100,000. If your staff are entering properties where dogs may be present this could put them at risk. Under the Health & Safety at Work Act you are responsible for your staff’s safety and educating them on canine body language has proven to be very effective and has huge cost savings for your organisation.

How much would it cost?

This depends on the type of training you would like and how many staff you must train. We work with companies to ensure you get the best training at a price that fits into your budget.

How often should we put our staff through the training?

This is entirely your decision; we would recommend a refresher annually. Many of our clients complete the Face-2-Face or Virtual training for all new staff with refreshers done via the online course.
