
Educating Communities on Dog Safety.
The Dog Safe Communities program is designed for everyone in the community who comes into contact with dogs. This could be with your own dog, in the friends home who has dogs, out at cafe’s and even when you are just out and about.
This program is designed to help you understand canine body language allowing you to assess situations where dogs are present to help keep you safe. Over 40% of homes have dogs and whether you like them or not you are going to come across them when you are out and about. With many companies allowing dogs in the office and in shops you need to be aware of the dogs behaviour so you can keep yourself safe.
A recent study in the UK of over 406,000 dog owners showed some surprising results. When asked if they could recognise if their dog was anxious or scared 80% said they could. When tested only 24% could actually recognise when their dog was uncomfortable. You need to know how to behave around dogs, what to do if you want to engage with the dog and recognise if that dog wants to meet you or not.
